other places to find me

EDITED 12/3/18

I won’t be deleting this blog (or any others) myself, at least for now, but I wanted to give a bit of a directory just in case it gets deleted. (I won’t be posting any links so it’ll actually show up in tags)—

Fandom Stuff:
ao3 – AtomicPen
wordpress – theatomicwriter (.) com
discord – Zutara server run by @tatkresiwok (reblogged here, on @thirtydaysofzutara, and on Adamant’s new blog, if you’re not on it)
personal discord – nonstopatomic #5276
fanfiction.net – AtomicPen
pillowfort – TBA
gmail – subatomicpen

Basically, I’m AtomicPen on most fannish sites that I’ve an account with.

And, if anyone’s interested in non-fandom stuff—

Professional Writing Stuff:
twitter – @thelonghandwriter
author site – thelonghandwriter (.) com
ko-fi – atomicpen

this will be updated with my pillowfort once I get one, and also if any other information changes (like if I upgrade on wordpress and the url changes; I’ll likely update that there, too)

This pillowfort site seems pretty cool from all the posts I’ve been seeing about it online. Are you going to be joining too? I will follow the queen wherever she goes… 👸 idk if they will be having a mobile app pretty soon too?

tatkresiwok:

So, based on their blog @pillowfort-io, they do not have a mobile app yet, but it’s a possibility. They know there’s interest in one, so that’s a good thing. As of right now, the site is down while they repair some security issues, and they plan to have it reopen this week.

At that point… yes, I plan to sign up and build a zutara community. I’ll still be active on tumblr, but as y’all know, a lot of my content is sex-positive, and I’d like to be able to share that in a community that supports such content without the fear of being randomly deactivated with no communication.

If and when I get in, I’ll let you know! I can even spare to buy a few extra registration links, so if anyone can’t afford the fee (it’s $5 right now), I am willing to help out if you DM me!

As for right now: We got a discord server for Zutara!

A better, more positive Tumblr

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

Hi Tumblr @staff.

This is a mistake. This is a very poor solution to what could have been a solvable problem.

You say you’re all about “sex positivity” while banning all adult content of any kind? Or at least, all content that doesn’t fit your incredibly restrictive guidelines?

Hypocritical.

You are actively deleting a majority of your account base. People will leave. People will find other, better solutions.

This is a result of negligence and poor planning, and your solution is to bleach your site until it’s unrecognizable.

Not to mention the countless artists and writers who are about to lose their viewer/readership. I understand erotica will still be allowed – but what about the relationships that are fostered between artists and writers? There are so many of us who make fanart of our favorite fics, and a lot of the time that involves smut. This ISN’T A PROBLEM. This is creativity at work, and sex positivity, like you claim to support.

Change this.

EDIT your site. Make positive changes that we as the community have asked for – don’t blanket-ban the content that, tbh, most of us are here for at least in part.

Patreon took steps to reverse unpopular policies – there is still time to make things right.

Otherwise, we’ll be leaving.

Here’s a reminder about Pillowfort which is currently down but only while it strengthens its security measures! You can read more about that (and about Pillowfort in general) HERE.

I’ve been using Pillowfort and it’s been great so far! 😀 And there’s a nice easy button you can press to mark a post NSFW if it is. ^_^

From someone who’s survived MySpace, livejournal, deviantart, and fanfiction.nets’ content purges and bad policy updates, here’s some advice on how to get through tumblr’s recent bullshit:

– don’t knee jerk delete. I know it’s tempting to peace out immediately but hang on and do the other steps first. Out right ghosting and erasing everything is how fandoms die.

– archive everything on your blog you want to keep

– tell your followers how they can archive and keep your work too. A lot of fic and art were only saved from ff.net and lj because other people saved it first. If you’re cool with other people saving your work for them to personally keep, let them know this. You can absolutely discourage reposting but I really do highly recommend you allow people to personally save fic and art they like and are worried will disappear forever. Digital Dark Ages are a real thing.

– tell people where you’re jumping ship to. Give links. Keep that info up, even if you’ve left the site.

– go through who you follow and find out where else you can follow them. Save their work if they’ll allow it. It’s tedious as hell but if you want to keep up with people on here clicking on their page to check in is the best way to do it.

– support places like ao3. This is exactly why ao3 asks for donations a few times a year. They are a 100% anti-purging, judgement free, ad free non profit run by an elected board and protected by lawyers. Places like ao3 literally save fandom so please continue to support them and other similar archives. This is exactly why ao3 is so important.

For example, here’s a post that explains and links for how to back up your blog

Also, go read the source policies and official Tumblr statements in addition to user analyses and reactions. It’s important to keep abreast of developments over time; staying informed is your power in this situation. Memes and reaction posts are funny and are a useful way to vent / provide commentary, but some of them create an inaccurate picture of what’s happening and should not be taken as evidence on their own of what developments have happened.

For those of you who follow me, I am going to slowly be moving stories over to AO3 (archiveofourown). I have debated this move for a while now, as well as some other things… My username is “Whaleofataleteller”. I am going to start there, and make some decisions for the future of my writing over the next couple weeks… I’ll keep you posted.

If you have a story you love and don’t have AO3, want easy access, or just have a favorite, you are welcome to save my stories. I ask that you don’t repost them, since they aren’t just going to be deleted, but you are welcome to save them for personal use.

so with regards to that commemoration poll for the fic thing–I totally forgot to thank you guys for voting for the easiest one for me to post. It was actually a really good thing because I ended up having to unexpectedly put one of my cats to sleep at the end of that particular week, so I was 100000% unable to write anything at all.

totally a stroke of luck, but I was glad for it, so thanks for giving me a smidge of luck fam :’)
